Usually I'd expand quickly and then just defend my empire. So here I was wanting a conquer-the-map game but being reluctant to do any conquering. ![]() One thing I never liked in earlier versions of Civ was war it was always clunky and protracted and not very well designed. Today I'm up to Civilization V: Brave New World, and I still find it an OK game-interesting enough to play all the way through and then come back to later. Civ was like that, only with lots more fun stuff to play around with. I was an old wargamer and always liked conquer-the-map games. The goofiness and mixed-up history bugged me a bit, but the gaming experience was good. ![]() I thought it was pretty cool, and I played a lot of it. ![]() Civilization is the first such game I ever played, back before the term "4X" was coined.
